MobileIron (Master Issue) #26

Closed mocasorla closed 11 years ago

mocasorla commented 12 years ago

Not sure if this is something in the radar for you, but it seems more and more companies are implementing this MobileIron client for email on mobile devices such as iPads and iPhones, our company is and it is a Hughe pain in the rear because now is detecting JB devices personal and corporate issued devices, at any rate if there's anything you can do it will be greatly appreciated, the app is available in the U. S. app store for both iPad and iPhone.

Thanks again,

Lunat1k commented 12 years ago

Are you referring to this app. If so I'll take a peek.

mocasorla commented 12 years ago

Yes, that's the application I was referring to, and they also have an ipad client as well,

Lunat1k commented 12 years ago

OK I think I should be able to fix this for the next build.

mocasorla commented 12 years ago

Thank you, ur the best,

Lunat1k commented 12 years ago

I think n00ne pushed Beta2 out can you test it and let us know.

iphone456 commented 12 years ago

Tested. Working fine with Beta2.

Lunat1k commented 12 years ago

Is it currently working with 37 beta 6?

mocasorla commented 12 years ago

It was not working and I am not jailbroken since I am running ios6 for company test.

What message pops up because I can't get past the register screen without a server.

mocasorla commented 12 years ago

On a device is register with a server, you would see two lights indicating a device has been register and is communicating with the server, if a device is not communicating due to any issue, such as a JB device, the Mobile Iron app detects that and it stops the communication with the server then one of the lights turn red and when you touch on it displays a message saying something like "Your device has been disconnected from the server due to being Jailbroken, please restore your device and reinstall mobile iron"

xCon 37 beta 6 not working with latest MI version 4.5.30. This issue being tracked here:

https://github.com/n00neimp0rtant/xCon-Issues/issues/71

ghost commented 11 years ago

FYI, just tested the latest MobileIron app with the newly released xCon (37-beta8) and the server still detects the JB.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

K I moved the status back to Researching for now.

mocasorla commented 11 years ago

Thanks, keep up the good work guys,

Any update on the mobileiron issue? My Company has given me a deadline to update the app to the recent version within the next two weeks and I will be unable to run my iphone jailbroken if the app can detect.

ghost commented 11 years ago

Same here, MobileIron is deploying a new version of their app and they are soon going to force us to be up to date with app versions.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

So we have a catch 22 here. If there is a new version coming out soon, even if I patch this version, the new version may not work and would have to be repatched once it gets released.

mobileironenemy commented 11 years ago

Lunatic - I agree with you, however I the solution I am looking for is to patch the existing update. My Company has never required me to update Mobileiron in the past, and I have refrained from doing so, however in September, ahead of the new iOS release, the Company was doing some compatibility work and asked me to update my Mobileiron and gave me the deadline. I am sure Mobileiron will have updates in the future (as with all apps) but who knows when (not sure where Badgecoupe got his info of an eminent update) but I do not expect to be asked to update my version each time as this has not been the case in the past (This current update - which I do not use - was released in June 2012 and is already iOS6 compatible). Let me know if there are any questions or if you want to suggest a donation amount that can put this as a high priority item.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

I hear ya. Well here is some good news i took a quick poke at it. it seems like some of the JB checks are patched. However it appears they are using some code where we have to directly patch it like we do some other apps. which means on each version it'll have to get repatched if it's the same thing. I won't be able to do much this weekend with it but if someone is willing to work with me during the week on some initial testing and is familiar with irc then you can meet up with me on Saurik's server on #xcon.

fpass680 commented 11 years ago

I can test a version if you need to, but i am not familiar with irc

ghost commented 11 years ago

I can test on Tuesday, I'll find the channel and jump on in the morning.

mobileironenemy commented 11 years ago

Thanks Luna, Fpass, and Badge. I am likely the least helpful with "irc"or "jumping on a channel" but that is probably not relevant as I am not able to perform any testing (as I would get kicked off my network and be without email). However, I am going to make my first donation to help keep this a high priority item. I also have a colleague at work that will be happy to donate to a timely solution.

mobileironenemy commented 11 years ago

My enemy diploid an update today (5.0). Not sure if any significant work was done on the old version yet.

fpass680 commented 11 years ago

Now 5.0 is required... Willing to donate ad well...

dextergiii commented 11 years ago

Would love to donate to keep your efforts going as well. Already purchased alias... I get the feeling MI will only get more popular with corporate.

Is it lame to ask what kind of donations would be required to sustain your focus?

Also I would be willing to test but not sure on the enterprise side what app activities will lead to accounts being flagged or disabled. If there's someone who can clarify it would be appreciated. I assume MI requires pushed policies in order to detect JB phones. If not I can use my personal to help test but can't connect to the corp network...

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

XCon Alias != XCON. @n00neimp0rtant wrote that to emulate Update Hider for apps we support. so if you purchased that that all went to him. If you want to donate you should donate to the person working the issue. In this case it's me but you don't have to until we get it working 1st.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

Also I think I have it patched up but I still need someone who is familiar with irc to get online with me and work with me 1:1 so I can make sure it's properly patches since I don't have access to a MI server

ghost commented 11 years ago

I can work with you on IRC, I can get on tomorrow 9-4 PST time to test if that works for you.

mobileironenemy commented 11 years ago

Lunatic - I pushed my donation last night through the Cydia "xCon" listing (via paypal), can you clarify if this is shared with you or maybe just give us the FYI on how to donate directly to your effort. Thanks.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

@n00neimp0rtant has only shared funds one time with me. He's actually supposed to be adding my donation link to the xcon page in cydia at some point he just hasn't done it yet.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

Well it looks like they pushed 5.0.0. Guess I'll start my research with this version.

ghost commented 11 years ago

I'm up on IRC now, I'll leave it connected today, I can test.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

You can find me on Saurik's server in #xcon

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

Heh looking at V5 they did the same thing as V4.5 but more of it

mobileironenemy commented 11 years ago

Any solution for V5? Sadly, I fear the sun is setting and I will have to kiss goodbye my jailbroken iOS.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

I'm making progress. I'm attempting to write some new logic that will detect their detection and patch it. This way it could possibly work for future versions and force them to look for alternative methods. It is of course slow because I have to write this in assembly instead of normal c and my knowledge of arm is still fairly limited. However I can maybe do a "quick" fix for this version to at least keep you guys alive.

dpj1j commented 11 years ago

I also am very interested in this. My company just went with this and I have until the end of the month, else I have to unjailbreak my phone. Please help. The version I have is 5.0.0. Thanks in advance.

fpass680 commented 11 years ago

That sounds great , how would i go about and getting the quick fix for now?

Thanks again...

ihatemobileiron commented 11 years ago

Hey @Lunat1k - fellow MobileIron sufferer here. Also have an end-of-the-month deadline to upgrade my current (patched) version of MobileIron. Really appreciative of the more aggressive patch - could perhaps you put the "quick fix" on the drawing board for release before the end of the month in case you're not able to finish the tougher assignment? Thank you for the hard work!

spotsic commented 11 years ago

I wanted to check the status of Mobile Iron version 5 fix. I want to make sure its patched before I update Mobile Iron. Any updates?

Also, how to we donate so you receive the money instead on xCon Alais?

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

@spotsic I'm still waiting on my tester to get back from vacation before I release it as beta. I think he should be back next week. My donation link is http://goo.gl/O1nPT

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

Just an FYI. My tester got back today and he has given me good news. He says that the "device in compliance". I will pack up a beta version shortly for everyone else to test.

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

Actually nevermind we still got something to iron out. It got past some of the other checks. but we are making progress.

ihatemobileiron commented 11 years ago

@Lunat1k - Great news! Can't wait to put V5 behind us.

ihatemobileiron commented 11 years ago

@Lunat1k - any update on the release of a new version of xCon Alias? Hate to ask, but a few of us are getting dangerously close to a 11/1 switch off of email services if we don't upgrade MobileIron to v5. Thank you again!

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

I don't managed xcon alias. However xcon is sort of coming close. Me and my tester are trying to get it working. It bypassed some checks but not others. and I'm trying to write a new hooking system to hopefully handle all future checks which is of course taking time to write since I have to code it into ARM instead of C/C++

ihatemobileiron commented 11 years ago

@Lunat1k - thank you. My bad - sorry! Really delighted to hear that things are progressing! Thank you v. much!

Lunat1k commented 11 years ago

Just an FYI. I asked if my tester will be available tomorrow as I will finally have some time to get back to this. Hopefully we will get this working by tomorrow if he is available.
