NASA Ames Mars Global Climate Model

About the Model

The NASA Ames Mars Global Climate Model (GCM) is developed and released by the Mars Climate Modeling Center (MCMC) at NASA's Ames Research Center. The GCM simulates the atmosphere and climate of the planet Mars using an external finite volume dynamical core to predict the global atmospheric state given various planetary parameters and physical parameters. This software package includes only the physical processes and patches to interface with the external model, as the dynamical core is a third party software package available on the NOAA-GFDL repository developed by the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The current release version is 3.1 released on January 17, 2024.

User Guide

A user guide is included that describes the basic instructions for downloading, installing, and running the model. Also included are postprocessing instructions, brief descriptions of the physics, input files and namelist options, and some tips for troubleshooting.
