Question to which I think the answer is no: Will there be any funds for which learners can apply to come to this? Ben and I are retiring from our computing course [read: graduating] and have two new instructors incoming.
It's no big deal if the answer is no. If it is, my plan is to get the instructors + speakers for the semester together to go over 'How Learning Works' and do an in-depth read of previous evals. But I figured I'd ask because offloading burdens is good.

I'd like to find funding, yes. More via e-mail :)
Updated w/blog post on training: http://ivory.idyll.org/blog/2014-davis-swc-training.html
I am interested in participating in this (as a helper or whatever). Pinging @abostroem because I bet she will be as well.
me too. I'll be starting at Davis as a physics graduate student next month. Some of the topics I can help with and some I'd love to sit in on.
I can also help, and would generally love to see the process after hearing the glowing reviews of the last live training!
I can also help *
Subscribed. What do I need to do to be part of the training?
Sign me up!
Me, too!
Also interested!
I will be at UCDavis, and am willing to help in anyway I can, but would also simply like to participate
Hi folks, we're still sorting out all the details (room? reserved. travel $$ for Greg etc? well, I'm not yet actually employed by Davis :) but it seems like there's significant tho not overwhelming interest. So you're all "on the list" and should plan on coming!
I figure you have everything you need covered but let me know if you need any support On Sep 4, 2014 7:19 AM, "C. Titus Brown" notifications@github.com wrote:

Thanks, adina -- at this point it looks like we have an equal ratio of "helpers" and "students" :)
Hi, Titus I want to come. Ming Tang from UFL.
I want to participate from UCB.
Titus - I am in, was this the workshop that you recommended that I attend?
If there's still room, I'd love to attend! (I'm at UC Davis...)
Definitely interested.
I'm interested and will check into others at Stanford who might be.
Also interested in participating from UCB
Am also from UCB and interested in participating.
Prospective UC Davis student here. You can count me in if room is available,
Also interested. Should be in CA then.
OK, I subscribed to this page but (inevitably) my January schedule means I cannot attend. :-(
UCD alumna and Mozillian. Very much interested in attending!
UCSF postdoc here, taught basic python to graduate students and I would love to improve my teaching!
ASU grad student here; is there still space for participants? I'd like to get involved in putting on bootcamps with the others here in AZ.
My calendar now dictates that I can't attend (rats, I'll just have to cope with being inadequate until the next opportunity), but I would like to do something to enable the attendance of someone who otherwise might not be able to benefit.
If someone can point me to a pot that can take contributions I will gladly supplement it in the expectation that the organizers will put whatever funds I (and others?) contribute to best (in their honest but not necessarily unbiased opinion) use.
No soapbox, just want to keep necessary shit happening - these classes appear to enthuse everyone who takes part, and their rigorous approach gives me confidence that progress will continue to ratchet forward.
That's how science is supposed to work, right? Even if the students get zero benefit, the people who are investing their time in making these things happen deserve lots more public recognition than they are currently receiving. IMHO. This is my small way of screaming to the world that lots more of this kind of stuff should be going on.
There is quite a lot already, it's just that more would be nice, OK? And this particular activity could be crucial: lots more people need to learn Python than can afford to pay for training, and while I would love people to buy my classes I'd rather they learned for nothing than didn't learn at all.
UCDavis staff, I'm interested in attending.
ASU Faculty, sign me up.
I'm a post doc working in Sacramento and UCD alum. I'd like to participate.
watching. Do you even have room for a Katy Huff to come hang-out/help/participate at this point?
@katyhuff via BIDS yes. Stay tuned for emails.
Hi all, we're going to post some more information shortly, I swear. At this point we are a bit oversubscribed but I think we can work it out so most can attend. More soon!
Another ASU grad student here; recently hosted/attended my first bootcamp and am super-stoked to become an instructor! Please let me know if there is still room.
UCD grad student, would like to come.
Another UCD grad student here, interested in attending.
Have the dates been firmed up? When should we plan to arrive/leave?
We have a couple of postdocs from the University of Calgary interested in attending if there is still room.
Hello all, if you are interested in attending, please fill out this form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1PKk6WN2engKwKNAmj1oOixw7XoN1oJI543vSldH-9YE/viewform
by this Friday. thanks!
I think I filled out the form but I never heard anything. Are there updates?
Working on it today! Should be posted by early afternoon PST.
Hi all, I've e-mailed everyone who filled out the form; at this point, we're full up. You can, however, fill out the form if you want to be alerted about FUTURE trainings...
Hi! I'm going to be coming in place of someone who unexpectedly cannot attend. Just filled out the Google form. Looking forward to it!
I wanted to point out that we're planning to run a software-carpentry-ish training at the D-Lab right after this workshop: https://github.com/dlab-berkeley/python-berkeley/issues/37
Leave a note there if you're interested in participating! A great way to apply what you just learned. @ctb, can you share this with the instructors in the training?
Is this the place to ask about the implementation details of this event? As in, what are the times we're expected to be around? Due to other constraints, I'll need to arrive Jan 6th morning and the earliest I can get in to the Davis airport is at 9:30AM. Will this be a major conflict?
Also when can we expect to finish on Jan 8th?
See: http://ivory.idyll.org/blog/2014-davis-swc-training.html.
Watch this space (well, subscribe to this issue :) for updates!
Please e-mail titus@idyll.org directly if you have questions.
