Unit tests for `module/hgd' #3

This module is central to site, and needs a comprehensive unit test.

Not all tests can be cleanly defined using the automatic (dynamic) unit-testing framework. In such cases, the static unit-testing framework has been used. Should have all tests complete by the end of the week.
