Please add Google Scholar to the API, including # of citations and BibTex reference. #109

This is a feature request.

Please add Google Scholar to the API. That in itself would be great. But I
think fantastic tools can be made if the search result also includes the
information currently presented on Google Scholar. In particular

1) The number of citations (and links to them)
2) BibTex reference entry
3) Information whether the paper/content is available as HTML. (And even
better if it is under a Free license.)

Thanks
Anders

A google scholar api would be huge. If the mission is to organize the worlds
information, why not help developers access the information generated by the
most
compounded human capital.

Google Scholar API is much needed. Google, we have been waiting for several
years
now. Why the delay? An official statement on your position concerning the API
would
be much appreciated.

Agreed, this would be _extremely_ useful. Kind of weird that this doesn't
already
exist, since citation analysis is one of the intellectual precursors of
PageRank.

Elsevier has 2 main platforms with scientific content: www.sciencedirect.com
(full text articles of Elsevier journals) and www.scopus.com (abstract and
index layer). Soon APIs will be made available for both platforms and will
enable developers to create applications that can work with the scientific
content and that can be sold to, or freely added by, Elsevier customers in an
application marketplace.

Currently Elsevier is defining a pricing framework for individuals as well as
institutions and would like to capture the opinions and ideas of developers in
the form of an interview. For this interview we are looking for developers that
understand the possibilities on the scientific as well as the commercial side.

If you can make time available, please, let me know and we will contact you for
an interview.

This is long overdue so I thought I'd add my support. At the moment I'm using
the PubMed API to get basic information on publications for a research group
web site. As has been mentioned, citation data in particular would make a
Google Scholar API a much more attractive proposition. And I'm sure other
advantages would quickly become apparent and people would start doing really
cool things with a Google Scholar API quite quickly.
