Please add Google Scholar to the API, including # of citations and BibTex reference. #109

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
This is a feature request.

Please add Google Scholar to the API. That in itself would be great. But I
think fantastic tools can be made if the search result also includes the
information currently presented on Google Scholar. In particular

1) The number of citations (and links to them)
2) BibTex reference entry
3) Information whether the paper/content is available as HTML. (And even
better if it is under a Free license.)

Thanks
Anders

not working on an API for google scholar despite the obvious cultural and
academic benefits shows a focus on profit over social responsibility.

here, i want to use it to do some visualization optimization for the search
result.

Hopefully after more than two years somebody will pick this up. I have little
hope though, if at all possible scholars around the world would welcome it, as
sure the fine people at Google know.

While I understand the "do this for the world" arguments presented here, I'm
willing to say that while I would love to see this API made available for free,
we'd be willing to pay for this, too. Not a lot, mind you, but a fair price.

(in our area), including the authors.

if you can share the API.. please..

+1 here, would be great. Automated bibtex lookup on compile-time for latex
would be easy to accomplish then!

Google scholar API will be very useful for developing various academic resource
linking applications. Hope Google can expose the API.

I would love to see an API for Google Scholar, and even better would be to
allow integration into Google CSE. We are currently using the Pubmed API to
query a subset of vetted educational journals, allowing users to then apply for
academic credit when they have demonstrated that they have learned from the
article.

In our case, a perfect use-case would to be able to filter results to not only
specific publications but content types (i.e. full articles vs drafts, ect). It
seems like that kind of functionality would fit perfectly with the current
setup of CSE, allowing users to specify sites/publications and apply
refinements. I would also be greatly in favor of using the same billing model
used for JSON requests via the CSE API - a set number of free queries with
additional queries incurring an additional charge.

Listen to these people Google! It's impossible to make a scholar search engine
from the ground up nowadays. The publishing journals and academics have made it
easier for you to index their publications. Now please give back to the
community and allow us to use your search to build research tools.

Listen to these people, Google! Please support this API. I'm sure that you wont
get an abusive use of the API, since it's useful to the academics more than
every other tribe! So, get close to the Universities, come back to your
Origins! We all know how you appreciate the scientific research, so show it to
us by supporting Google Scholar API.

I would *love* a Google Scholar API. For my final master's project, we're
planning to build a "geneology" of US case law using NLP (for some topic
analysis and weak shepardization) and various infoviz libraries. If there were
a Google Scholar API, we could use its already-marked-up set of legal opinions
and "cited by" and "cites" links from the get-go.

Instead, as things stand, it looks like we'll have to download the same dang
archive that Google Scholar's legal search is based on (!) from Carl Malamud's
site, parse it, and link decisions to one another by hand. SO much duplicated
effort; such a waste!

This topic started a while ago. Has this been done yet? It would be nice to
map citations to topics, to authors, schools? With an api, could be build our
own database for topics were are interested in.
