Not a short term solution unfortunately, but given that this crisis is made possible in large part by disinformation, maybe mechanisms for making easier to verify the authenticity of information may help. Something like GPG in email signature. This is not a proof that the information is true, but it can prove that the producer of the information is really the one it pretends to be. After that point it become a matter of trust in the information producer.

We saw a similar problem with global warning, with climato-sceptics showing data or citations that they attributed to NASA while actually NASA never said that, or the data was for something else. For example I have frequently seen climato-sceptics using temperature data at 10 km of altitude and doing their argumentation as if it was ground temperature data.

In the Ukrainian crisis, photography have circulated on social medias which were photography from a different conflict in another place and time. In those two examples location matter. Maybe a topic could be how to make geospatial information easy to encode in a standard way in the data produced by press agencies or social medias, and how to ensure the integrity of those data (e.g. GPG). The ideal would be have web browser capable to put some green light on information from verified sources (again not a proof that the information is true, but that it really come from the cited producer).
