@brianjhanson and I have both moved to inlining SVGs when necessary vs. using SVG sprites, and its been so long for me personally since I've used SVG sprites that I honestly don't even remember how to use them anymore. But I do vaguely remember it being gross and hacky.

This svg task wasn't really doing much harm, but if its useless it makes sense to kill it. So I'm killing it. RIP.
