Update to TB 128/Nebula: asking for donations #210

Open opto opened 1 year ago

opto commented 1 year ago

There are a lot of changes in TB 115 (and now TB 128 which is still being totally rewritten)), because the main window has been converted to html, and many global access points to internal functions have been moved, renamed or are gone.

So the addon update for this TB update (115) is really a lot of work, so donations are very much appreciated.

Donations by Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6K57TUFSNMVSJ&source=url

EDIT: the news on TB 128 are ca. 142 posts further down

many thanks, Klaus

PresGas commented 1 year ago

I donated! Good luck with the work. Another thing to mention/post or document is contributing. Never hurts to re-iterate that even if it is posted somewhere.

mdonz commented 1 year ago

Hi Klaus FYI: "Donations to this recipient aren't supported in this country" (Paypal states) - that's me trying to contribute from New Zealand. Never seen this before. Hope it's temporary and will try in a few days again.

Olifair commented 1 year ago

Also donated. I hope that TB115 is not so messed up that is does not allow anymore the functions necessary for Nostalgy. It would also be great if updating to TB115 would solve the problem with accessing the history :-) Good luck Oliver

adamkerz commented 1 year ago

Donated - not a problem from Australia, I guess sometimes NZ is second best, @mdonz

Hubbitus commented 1 year ago

Hello, @opto.

Thanks for your great add-ons. I've use nostalgy++ for years.

Unfortunately, PayPal does not work in many countries (it also "looks works" in some countries, but do not allow link bank cards).

Please consider taking donations in some alternative methods like https://payeer.com and cryptocurrencies.

inokani commented 1 year ago

I got "This organization is currently ineligible to receive donations." from Paypal. This happened in Finland, Europe - where PayPal does work normally. (Does "organization" refer to Opto/Klaus or Mozilla/Thunderbird?)

mdonz commented 1 year ago

Hi @inokani. Organisation must relate to Opto/Klaus in this situation. I still don't understand why some of us from overseas cannot use Paypal for this (I am using it often for other international payments and have never seen this before). It works even from Australia @adamkerz ;-)

dochego commented 1 year ago

@inokani same here, from the UK: "This organisation is currently ineligible to receive donations."

ecogit commented 1 year ago

Here in Switzerland the Paypal link even returns:

This organization is currently ineligible to receive donations.

Is it possible to remit instead via bank-transfer (IBAN)?

opto commented 1 year ago

Hi all,

many thanks for your willingness to support the development.

Overnight, I have been confronted with Paypal's notice that nothing goes until they have checked my passport. They say it may need up to three days, I will report here once it is open again. Bank account: as soon as the number is out in the open, it could be abused by others. So I am hesitant about that. But maybe digital banks are more protected, I will inquire about that.

many thanks for your support. By the way, the 'organisation' is me - it is Paypal's way of talking of their clients.

Klaus

opto commented 1 year ago

so ... Paypal is working again. Thanks for considering to help.

Klaus

mdonz commented 1 year ago

Let's hope it will start working from everywhere soon. For NZ it is currently still showing the same issue. Will try later again.

rweigle commented 12 months ago

I have donated as well and it worked for me.

Hubbitus commented 12 months ago

What about alternative methods?

SergeLalonde commented 11 months ago

Donation made. Thank you for your excellent work with Nostalgy++ and XNote++. I'm looking forward to the TB 115 update since TB updated automatically and I've lost both functionalities. :-(

dbergol commented 11 months ago

Dontaion made!! Is there already an idea, when the update to TB115 might be available?

bpangburn commented 11 months ago

Hello. Love Nostalgy++ and happy to contribute. Are you already working on the changes or do you need a certain threshold to dedicate time to the (significant) upgrades? We are having to upgrade an internal utility plugin so getting familiar with 115. Are there any bits that you'd like to sub out. Possible we could also assist with some coding.

Thanks again for your efforts!

ThomasHeinrichSchmidt commented 11 months ago

Donated today.

moritzp commented 11 months ago

Donated 😊

lepokle commented 11 months ago

Donated, thank you for your efforts!

This plugin really increases my efficiency with mails drastically.

bpangburn commented 11 months ago

Donated. Thank you for your work!

obfischer commented 11 months ago

Donated already some days ago! Thank you for your work

opto commented 11 months ago

thanks for all of your support.

I am actively working on this and the main function (move, copy etc) is ok when I load everything into the new main window. But now, the tabs are truely separated so this may be a bad approach if we issue a command and then change tab to another tab maybe showing another account.

So maybe some of the code needs to be loaded into the tabs instead of the main window.

That needs some analysis, then, i will note here and put a test version into releases.

sirlampi commented 11 months ago

Donated already some days ago as well! This addon is essential! Thanks a lot for your great work!

ecogit commented 11 months ago

88 symbolises fortune and good luck in Chinese culture. I just donated accordingly ;-)

Thank you for developing further this fabulous software!

Hubbitus commented 11 months ago

I still can't unfortunately :(

konstantinkoschke commented 11 months ago

Thank you very much for your work, Klaus!

You should have received a donation from a @tngtech.com PayPal account. nostalgy allows us to efficiently work through thousands of e-mails every single day - we appreciate your work a lot!

fanf commented 11 months ago

Donation done, it worked with paypal. Thank you for the awesome product - I've update to tb115, and I'm just discovering how painful it is to use TB without nostalgy++ :scream:

slusallek commented 11 months ago

Just donated as well. Would be good to have an early test version that works somehow even if only rudimentary at first.

Thunderbird (by snap) got upgraded and I cannot find an older version to downgrade to any more. Any hints? "snap revert" does not work any more.

tuxayo commented 11 months ago

If you ran it just once, the profile would have been migrated since some datastructure change in major version changes. And an old thunderbird will refuse to use this profile. Unless you have a backup of the profile?

HW-Owl commented 10 months ago

Hi Klaus/opto, do you have any update for us when a test version or even the add-on will be available for tb115? Thank you for your hard work.

jeroenpotters commented 10 months ago

Just donated as well 🇳🇱 . Keep up the good work @opto 🚀

hbarel commented 10 months ago

TB development team quite disappointed me with this "upgrade". The new shiny Supernova does not seem to introduce any noticeable features, just cosmetic UI 'improvements'. At the same time, it breaks compatibility with a large part of its extensions ecosystem. TB without extensions like Nostalgy is just an awkward Outlook port for Linux and Microsoft-avoiders. If I were them, I would be more careful with preserving backward compatibility, unless I was actually adding something meaningful.

You can start Thunderbird with the flag --allow-downgrade from the console, after (somehow) convincing snap to install the old version.

And keep a backup of your profile! Just in case of data corruption due to doing that.

szmontsaroff commented 10 months ago

Donated. Any ETA for 115?

oschulz commented 10 months ago

Would it be possible to donate via GitHub Sponsors except directly via PayPay? That would also enable/encourage people make recurring financial contributions (a small monthly sum, for example).

Or Liberapay, it's libre, doesn't tie funding to GitHub/Microsoft, less fees (0% for the platform so only the payment fees), can support PayPal and Stripe to have more options in terms of countries and payment means and fee minimization. https://liberapay.com

It even has a pledge function to setup recurring funding to a given github account if the person joins Liberapay and links their github account: https://liberapay.com/on/github/opto

moritzp commented 10 months ago

Is there any update on the new version already?

opto commented 10 months ago

yes, there will be a test version until ca. Wednesday, hopefully earlier,

Klaus

carotiden commented 10 months ago

donated (weeks ago).

szmontsaroff commented 10 months ago

Not to push, but it is Wed ;->.

fanf commented 10 months ago

Sorry Stephen, but open source doesn't work like that. It's not a professional contract, and even if money was given, it doesn't imply rights beside the fact of being proud to help software maintainers that we care about. If you're so impatient, perhaps you could try to help, be it with code, tests, whatever the maintainers feel appropriate - and that includes the option "just be patient".

Disclaimer : I'm not at all linked with the dev of nostalgy (just a user), so if my words make someone angry, just know they are for nothing about it, and continu to support them accordingly.

I've donated, and I look forward to the "newest" Nostalgy++ TB without Nostalgy++ is painful... Thank you, Opto, for all your hard work!

I've also discovered (to my surprise) that IMO the best part of Nostalgy++ (what I'm missing the most since I "accidentally" upgraded to TB115) are the keyboard shortcuts for moving between the folder/list/message panes...

opto commented 10 months ago

firsttest version see here: https://github.com/opto/nostalgy-xpi/releases/tag/4.0.1

fanf commented 10 months ago

WOW, amazing :)

@opto : how / where do you want that we report our tests ? (putting it here for now, I can move it without problem) Good parts :)

(sorry for the bad news)

opto commented 10 months ago

yes, best here, preferably with the version no. (4.0.1 this time)

I retested, it seems to work sometimes (repeating, it will move on the second or third try). When I originally tested, i think it worked always.

What OS do you have (I a on win 11-64

carotiden commented 10 months ago

Congratulation. Thank you for your work on the best addon ever.

So far my impressions (version 4.0.1; windows 10-64bit): -installation was fine

weird behavior:

moritzp commented 10 months ago

Thanks from my side as well! I just installed it on the latest MacOS Ventura 13.5.2 & TB 115.2.2, which worked fine 🥳

However, I observed a weird and reproducable behaviour when trying to move messages: I'm pressing the shortcut key, type some characters to find the folder. In that case, the string within the Nostalgy bar is expanded to the suggested folder and "selected". If I then press Enter, the message is moved AND opened in a separate tab, which is also focussed. If I press "arrow down" before pressing Enter, and thereby selecting the entry from the list, the message is moved and not opened in a separate tab, which I consider as the expected behaviour.

Also, the "go to folder" shortcut doesn't seem to work. I assigned multiple different keys to check it, but none does the trick 🥺
