[Copywriting ] How LGBTQ Glassdoor Works

We aim to give transparency to how this project works. You can scroll to the section “Adding an Organization” to see the questionnaire as well!

Getting Started

How does the LGBTQ Glassdoor work? LGBTQ Glassdoor is a simple, 2-step form for people to fill out and recommend workplaces they know as LGBTQ-friendly workplaces (their current and past organizations and/or ones they know extremely well). Individuals can recommend as many organizations. Multiple people can recommend the same organization as well and leave comments on what they like about a workplace.

All submissions are made anonymously. You will be asked to fill out personal information in case we need to contact you to verify information. None of your personal information will be released publicly.

Below is a screenshot of the company listings.

You can also click into companies to see if anyone has left additional comments.

Who is this for? This directory is for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer) individuals in Hong Kong to find inclusive workplaces that fit their personal needs.

Who can add an organization? LGBTQ individuals and Allies (check out this Guide to Allyship)

What types of organizations can I add? Any workplace that has at least some inclusive policies (doesn't have to check all the boxes). It can be:

If your company does not have official policies, you can still add it if it fits some other criteria.

I'm not sure if my company is inclusive. Can you give me some examples of what counts? The best way is to ask an LGBTQ colleague who is already out to spend 5 minutes to fill this out. Their name will not be published.

Can I add a company that has no official policy? Yes! The point of this directory is to help identify companies (such as SMEs) that have inclusive practices, but may not have formalized them into policies.

Can I add my organization if there are no out LGBTQ people? It depends, but yes for many cases. For example, if your organization has same-sex and trans benefits, you can add it. If you know your organization sponsors LGBTQ events and projects, you can add add it. When you fill out the form, you can check off a box that fits your organization, even if it is only one.

If your company has no official policies or programs, but you are confident most of the company, especially the senior management and leadership, are supportive and you are willing to be an ally, you can check off the “Allies” box only.

Please understand that by putting your company on here, you are committing to a safe workplace for future LGBTQ-identified colleagues. If there are reports of discrimination in the future, we may need to contact you or remove the company.

What if my organization has official anti-discriminaton policies, but I still see homophobia and discrimination? Unfortunately, this happens a lot. We have created a special answer that says “Has same-sex / trans policies, but they are not enforced”. You can check this box. In the future, if things improve, you can contact us at hello[at]lgbtqglassdoor.com

What do you do with my personal data? We collect individual data for 2 reasons:

  1. so that individual comments can be separated from company data; and
  2. so we can reach individuals if necessary to verify information and avoid spam.

We do not publish or release personal information.

How do I know your website is secure? LGBTQ Glassdoor uses Oursky's opensource serverless backend, Skygear.io and is also hosted on Skygear servers. You can read more about Skygear's data privacy policy and security.

Can I add my company if I'm not in Hong Kong? In theory, anyone from anywhere can add their companies. However, we created this directory for Hong Kong and encourage anyone who would like to host one for their own city to clone our opensource repository on Github at: github.com/oursky/lgbtq-glassdoor.

Adding an Organization

You can add an organization in 5 minutes by filling out 2 quick forms. These pages are available in English and Traditional Chinese.

1) Click “Add Company” at our home page 2) Click “Let's Start” after reading our note. We do not release personal information. All recommendations are made anonymously.

3) Fill out your individual information. Click “Next” when you are done. Your personal information is not public and will not be shared. Your personal information is needed for us to check listings and prevent spam. We may also contact you to verify information about a recommendation. 4) Fill out company information. Click “Next” to submit. You can check off any / all options that apply to your company. If you want, you can check off just one answer in the whole questionnaire (for example, only “LGB colleagues”). You can also check off all answers that apply to one question.

You can also add anonymous comments at the bottom of the form to include LGBTQ-friendly factors not covered by the questions.

5) Click “View all listings” to finalize your submission. You will see your entry on the directory immediately. If you do not, try to refresh the page. 6) Share with your friends and add more organizations!
