Compact View: Show source #440

Because a picture tells more than 1000 words:

As a user i want to see the source in the compact view:

(this mockup is font-size: smaller; color: #aaa) news-2

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

Should be solved using #305 opinions?

stefan-niedermann commented 10 years ago

in my opinion the colors are not good. in the android-news-app there are already similar color-bars, i don't like them. i like the in #305 discussed idea of displaying the favicons, not simple colors. reasons: there a many different favicons, but maybe i have 10 (minimal) different blues, hard to identify.

displaying the main domain in a light grey after the title is still the best solution (IMHO)

monreal commented 10 years ago

Let's keep the compact view clean, #305 is a nice way to dothis IMHO. If feed names are important you can still filter by feed.

cosenal commented 10 years ago

I support @stefan-niedermann 's idea here. Without mentioning the source, the compact view for the All articles feed is useless.

salinasv commented 10 years ago

I also agree with @stefan-niedermann here. The colors idea in #305 is nice and all but then you will need to learn a mapping from $COLOR to $SOURCE_WEBSITE in your head.

I think just adding the source website as shown in the image should be straight forward and will look clean.

Maxmurgian commented 10 years ago

I would like to second the idea of showing the feed name either after the post title or directly below it. This would make the compact view far more useful. Sure, colors are nice, but there are people who are color blind or have difficulties differentiating between similar colors (I fall in the latter category). Encoding information solely in coloration is bad design, in my opinion.

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

After implementing this, I kinda feel that its a bad idea to add it. The bar is already cramped enough and taking a looks at feedly, it looks a lot cleaner if there is just the title and the buttons, compare http://s14.directupload.net/images/140910/ihpqw2n3.png to https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/195053/4210685/72db0406-387a-11e4-9a36-2a66318fddc6.png

The source should be shown only in All articles in Compact view. How are the screenshots related to that?

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

So after expanding the article we move all the stuff like title, source, time down from the bottom into the article? feels weird. The screenshot shows feedly only having a tilte and some buttons in the top bar, looks extremely clean to me.

Im trying to unite the compact and normal view because its too much of a hassle to maintain two completely different designs.

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

So basically normal view should exactly be the same as compact view, just with all entries expanded

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

I think I'll replace it with the favicon

stefan-niedermann commented 10 years ago

I think I'll replace it with the favicon

would be an option to indicate, where a news come from, too. but with two impacts on user experience imho:

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

motley? You can always check the feed source if you expand it.

stefan-niedermann commented 10 years ago

motley = kunterbunt, every icon has its own colors, so the app will look motley i think

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

Dont think so, heres an example https://feedbin.com/ ;)

Also nearly every page I use has a favicon, it should be enough to distinguis them on the first quick glance. We can always add the full name if you expand it

stefan-niedermann commented 10 years ago

okay! i'm looking forward to test it.

if we receive issues about pages not having favicons, maybe a generated color could be used (green square or blue square, ...) in the future.

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

Some examples with the buttons alligned to the maximum width of the article itself:

BernhardPosselt commented 10 years ago

Ok, aligned the buttons to the very right, looks fine :P now only need to figure out where to place the date

Current status, the buttons irritate me in the expanded view :/
