oso-game-1

Taking the OSO game's first chapter to the finish line!

The game is playable in-browser at this link with the password butterflies

Development

  1. Install Ren'Py 8.1.0 prerelease
  2. Install git
  3. Install your preferred text editor, such as VSCode (Optional: install GitHub plugins)
  4. Clone this repository (using git clone https://github.com/pixequil/oso-game-1.git) inside your Ren'Py working directory
  5. The game should appear in your list of Ren'Py projects! Select oso-game-1 and then click Launch Project.
  6. When editing code, you can click inside the launched Ren'py game and push Shift + R to "reload". From then on, the game will usually auto-reload itself when it senses that you've saved changes to the code. You can also manually reload using the command. This is useful for testing changes to visual stuff (like text formatting and image placement) but if you changed anything related to variables, you'll have to restart the game from the main menu.
  7. In a Ren'Py game, you can hold CTRL to "skip" through non-decision-related dialogue. This is useful for testing routes without having to watch every scene leading up to the part you're testing.
