The (preliminary) categories are

bibliographic description (author, title, publisher page numbers etc.)
content classification (subject headings, taxonomies, ontologies etc.)
external identifiers
content descriptions (first line, last line, list of characters etc.)

I added scripts to get a list of all properties and to get the category of properties to identify works (these should be handled differently). Properties specific to works are also collected under Q18618644 and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Template:Bibliographic_properties and several other places but we should better look at the actual data usage.
