Describe the bug

After updating the Custom Learning App to 4.4.0.0 and then clicking on the Admin site page I get this error, "Microsoft 365 learning pathways has a configuration issue. Ask your administrator for assistance. [Administrators: Please see the browser console for detailed logs. For technical assistance check out the issues list at https://github.com/pnp/custom-learning-office-365/issues.]"

To Reproduce

Update package on the Custom Leanding App, per the directions on github, then open CustomLearningAdmin page to validate.

Expected behavior

It should validate the package and update the content of the site.

@ClintonArs Thanks for reporting this issue. In looking at the log it looks like there is an issue trying to get the cache and regenerating it. Please clear the cache.

To Reset Learning Pathways Cache To clear the Learning Pathways cache, go to the Learning Pathways Admin site click on the gear and go to Site Contents > CustomConfig list.

In the Custom Config list delete anything with a title of CustomConfig. (I normally filter the list by title and only show the CustomConfig titled items)

Go back to the Learning Pathways Admin screen and refresh the page. This will start the cache to rebuild.

To Clear Browser Cache Navigate the to the Learning Pathways page where you are seeing the error For Chrome Right click the page and select Inspect Right click the refresh button and select Empty Cache and Hard Reload

Then go back to your page and see if the error persists.

Let me know how this works for you.

Also, it looks like you have many languages turned on. If you are using them that is fine but if you are only using one language our recommendation would be to disable any language you are not using.

Thank you for the quick response and steps to try. I deleted all the CustomConfig listings as you can see from the screen shot. Went back to the Admin page refreshed and cleared cache getting the same error. I did remove the languages, so thank you for that info.

So still getting the same error and content will not load:

@ClintonArs the reason it's throwing the error is that the webpart isn't getting the data in the config list. This can be due to several possibilities. Can you confirm that now that the cache has been emptied that the cash entry as been recreated in the CustomConfig list? If so is there data in the JSON site column for the entry?

I apologize for the delayed response. The CustomConfig did get recreated, as you can see below. Not sure how to expand to see the data as it doesn't give me the option when I click on the listing.

@ClintonArs Are you using a custom content pack or just the out of the box public CDN. Also, did you change the URL of your Learning Pathways site by any chance? You can't create multiple instances of Learning Pathways unless you have multiple tenants. If you are using the out of the box CDN then your organization could be blocking github.

Thank you for the reply. I am going to say I am using the out of the box public CDN, as this was done in 2019 and have little recollection of the implementation. Don't recall doing anything custom. Just followed the direction supplied by MSFT. How can I determine that definitively?

Yes, I did edit the Site address as seen below.

It was working before I tried to update, so following the update directions broke the site.

What are my best options here? Blow it away and start with a new implementation?

You are probably using the out of the box content pack. Did you recently change the URL of the site or was it that URL when you created it in 2019? If you changed the URL recently then you need to run the powershell to set the tenant app property.

Changed in 2019 and has remained the same to date. However, when it didn't work, I ran the UpdateM365IPCDN.ps1 to make sure that was not the issue, so that has already been executed without error.

That is good to know. Not sure it had an effect. Now that you have removed the extra languages can you clear the cache and then run the precheck again. There are a bunch of errors in there about not being able to find the cache but they are for the languages so it will help to filter those out. Also, can you check the network tab and see if there are any 404 errors. I think that the CDN might be getting blocked based on the error you posted from the console above.

Good day to you. Cleared the cache and don't see any 404 errors on the network, just 200's and 2 401's related to blocked cookies. As for run "precheck again", can you clarify as not sure what you are requiring for that ask?

@ClintonArs - Please share the json payload of the list item with the title CustomSubCategories in the CustomConfig list. You can also click the "Add column" button and then down in the lower left pick 'Show or hide columns' and then add JSONData column to the view.. or grid view as you did earlier.

Edit: If there is nothing in the JSONData field then delete that list item with the title CustomSubCategories and then go back and refresh the CustomLearningAdmin page. That should fix the error. If there is something in the field, then please share it.

Ok, i see the issue and assume you had a failed upgrade process as some point but didn't deal with it then. It's fine it can be manually fixed... Update the value of that item to this:

BOOM! That was it. The admin page now opens as it should and now, I can see the content. THANK YOU! I didn't deal with it because I never got a failed error or issue. When I upgraded, following the github directions, all went well until I opened the Admin page. We shall see what happens when we upgrade on the next update package.
