Quantum image processing. Case Study: Cities at Night #24

Open haroldlco opened 4 years ago

haroldlco commented 4 years ago

Abstract

Quantum image encoding, edge detection and matching with a cool application.

Description

There have been recent developments in the implementation of image processing on quantum computers. Specifically, current algorithms have been proposed for basic filtering and edge finding. Moreover, various schemes have also been proposed related to the representation of images using qubits. These representations and the corresponding algorithms used to process such images have significant advantages over their classical counterparts.

We have decided to take these theoretical advantages and try to apply them to a real case study: image matching of cities at night. For more info, check out the repo's README.

There is also this quantum image compression algorithm that I found interesting. Not sure if it's been implemented.

Looks good! We can discuss the scope of the project later tonight or tomorrow morning!

Hello.

I find this project very interesting and I think it could have a practical application in a science research project of my own

Cities at Night aims to create a Google maps style map of the world at night using pictures from the astronauts onboard the ISS.

NASA has a repository with more than 1M pictures that need to be organized recognizing patterns of the cities.

I think we could develop software to help to this task using your Quantum Photoshop idea.
