[backport] Fix compatibility with current Mac 3Dconnexion driver #926

Description and Justification

I'd like to request a backport of PR #11753, which fixes the compatibility issue with the 3Dconnexion drivers on macOS. I have tested it on the LinkStable branch with 3DConnection driver 10.8.2 (3632) and it works well.

Would it be possible to implement this PR into the LinkStable branch?
