Make "include copy of receipt on invoice" the default #4

I've been a vocal supporter of FreshBooks among my consultant colleagues. I love FB.

However, there's one workflow that is vexing, has significant consequences for me, and would be easy for you to fix: including receipts on invoices.

To be clear, I don't mean attaching receipts to expenses; I mean setting "Include receipt image on invoice".

The problem: By default, attached receipts are not included on invoices. For consultants who pass through all expenses to clients, they must go into each receipt individually and select "Include receipt image on invoice". This process requires several clicks.

Because I can't easily see which receipts will be attached, I have submitted invoices that don't have receipts. Those invoices are rejected, which means that they need to be retracted. Then the expenses have to be removed (required to change the setting), and then readded. The current FB workflow for receipts makes this scenario both likely and painful. Please fix it.

What I want:

  • The expenses page (https://my.freshbooks.com/#/expenses) should indicate which expenses will be included on an invoice. Logically, this might go next to the paperclip that indicates that a receipt is attached.
  • Support bulk modification of issues to include receipts on invoices. Using the current expense selection mechanism, add a new Bulk Action to set "Include receipt image on invoice".
  • Provide an option to make "Include receipt image on invoice" the default setting. This option should probably be per-client.
  • When preparing invoices, indicate expenses that will and will not have receipt images attached when preparing the invoice.

Thank you for the detailed feature request. This stuff is gold for our product team and I appreciate that you took the time to write it up. We've had a number of requests for improvements to the expense images and invoices workflow and I'll make sure yours is added. All of your suggestions would certainly improve working with expenses and receipts.

I can't make any promises on when these features will make it into FreshBooks, but I'll make sure the right people get notified. We take these feature requests seriously!
