Science team would like to be able to upload external call templates (e.g., from Xeno-Canto, macaulay library, etc.) into an Arbimon project without having to assign them to a site. Right now, we have to make a fake site to upload these templates, which then causes confusion because it causes a mismatch between the actual number of sites and the number of sites shown in Arbimon/Insights. The fake site also still shows up on maps, thus incorrectly displaying where there were deployment sites. This is a constant problem for partner projects and will continue to be. We use these external call templates when we cannot find a focal species through the manual checking/preliminary species list and it is also not in the Arbimon public template library. We can use templates for the species from other sources, but we need to ingest those files into Arbimon and currently it is not possible to do so without assigning the recording to a site. We also cannot add these external templates to actual project sites as it would be incorrect and falsely skew actual project data/analyses. (Also see comment below for a link to a separate, but related, eng-support thread about only showing the number of sites with recordings in the Insights page - this will also help to mitigate the number of sites in arbimon vs number of actual sites issue)

@koonchaya I think we need to discuss the UI with Tiffany. Also, we need to discuss how urgent this is with Marconi or Carly. It would be great if this can wait after the launch of New Arbimon in January.
