ISSUES

When updating existing works by CSV:

• You have to include 3 fields - work type, source identifier and title

  • Leave off work type and it creates a new work with the default work type and duplicate source id. BUT if the orig. works were the default work type it prob. doesnt do this. - instead it should fail if work type is not included.

  • Leave off source id it creates a new work with a new bulkrax created source id - instead it should fail to import, but i see how this conflicts with the feature/setting to let bulkrax create source id.

  • Leave off title it fails as it should

These duplicate works that are created do not follow the rules of required fields or controlled vocab.

Is this a known issue?

I exported all the works created (when doing the above testing) and it DID created a duplicate work with the exact same source id- it created a new work I THINK because it did not have the model field included in the update

Questions

• when you export files and metadata, is there not a field in the metadata that list the filenames in the CSV? How do you associate the rows of metadata to the actual files?

i did an export from the DL and i see there are separate "fileset" rows that have a number that corresponds to the row of metadata - but how do you get those two things to be connected? in other systems i have worked with (CONTENTdm for example) you need the filename in the same row as the metadata. Even for importing files with bulkrax that is how it is done.

• what is the field “Label” that gets exported? its empty (i dont see this in DL Hyrax version)

• if you include thumbnails in your export it appears to only put a file name in the metadata, it does not actually export the thumbnail files? what is the purpose for this? For us, to use as a Digital Library import it would need to be the URL to the thumbnail or the actual file. I thought we got that set up but i guess not. THe bulkrax wiki says the the files should be in teh export but I ony see full size files not thumbnail files

• If you are intending to delete a work that is a PDF - do you also have to delete every pages work file that got created by the UV gem? (YES! tested it finally. this is not great)

Posted this on slack but got no reply - in Hyrax if you want to import new works to an existing collection - how do you find that collection's source id to put into the "parents" column for the works? Answer is to look at the URL for that collection (see leeann's reply below)

• if our importer is set to recognize ; as a field value separator - can multiple filenames be used in a single file column or does that always need to have multiple columns for multiple files? (i have tested metadata fields and they can do both, just not sure about files)
• in the wiki it says you can separate them by | - is that true if we have configured bulkrax to split on ;?
