I'm starting to use GitHub for work on my blog. Why not? It's got good communication and collaboration tools. Why not hook it up to a blog?

A magazine is doing a profile of me re the beginnings of podcasting at Berkman in 2003. They asked for stories of goofs, or the first time something weird happened on a podcast. If you were listening back at the beginning, the podcasts from the DNC in 2003, or a BloggerCon, or one of the casts from my cross-country driving in 2004, please leave a note here.

I always recall (accurately or not) listening to a cast from the early days where you were watching a thunderstorm roll in. Perhaps you were in Florida. I can't recall. I was a young teenager at the time and just figuring out podcasting. I remember listening to this episode while sitting under a covered porch as a similar storm passed by me. I've thought podcasts were one of the coolest things in the world ever since.

I remember the directory in iPodder, where a search of a genre would give you a few dozen shows (if that). I found out about the late Whole Wheat Radio by listening to their taped live shows. Podcasting led to discovery from the very beginning, before YouTube et.al. Not particularly crazy, but I reckon that was a defining moment. It was like having a DVR for everything.

As for goofs, I still remember the trolls trying to sell their products on BloggerCon, after you specifically told them not to. People just couldn't get it into their heads that this podcast movement, and that conference specifically, didn't [have to] have a commercial angle to it.
