In order to run Public Folder I need: 1) node.js 2) content in html (made by any static site generator like hugo or jekyll right? or even handcoded HTML?) 3) a storage provider like Dropbox or Amazon. Am I right? Anything I'm missing anything? Looking forward to it!
Roland -- these are great questions. Thanks for posting here so quickly! :boom:
Yes, you need Node, but it will be available as an Electron app for the Mac, and Node is built into that. So not every user will need to install Node. It will also be available as a Node app so you can run it anywhere Node runs.
Yes. Content in any format you like. HTML, movies, MP3, images, anything you like.
It only works with Amazon S3. That keeps things nice and simple. Maybe in a subsequent version it will support other storage backends. But I want to iterate over S3 to see if we can make it simpler than it is in the first release. Lowering the barrier to entry is a very important part of the process here.
S3 works for me in 1.0. Thanks! Looking forward to hosting some sites!
Are you planning to add your Storage Service concept as a way to publish to Public Folder? It seems like the two ideas go together.
Haha it would be nice but that service doesn't exist! ;-)

Yesterday I wrote about a new product I'm working on called Public Folder.
A few people have asked questions about it so I wanted to provide a place for that.
This is that place. ;-)
