Quest 2, playing via link, airlink and virtual desktop. Ryzen 5950x RTX 3080 16gb cl14 ram, playing from a gen4 nvme. The game runs like absolute crap. But there are moments where everything is smooth when things are not loading. One of the NPC's will open their mouth and dialogue.
I notice that the game no longer takes any more than 4gb of ram. Not sure if this is l4d2, or something new to the mod. I'm going to blow away the entire folder and try again. My GPU is around 20% utilized, CPU is around 10-20 and ram does not exceed 4.5gb. WHen I remove the d3d9.dll and the other files from this mod, the ram usage goes up to 6.5 gb. So I guess the game is just effecient.

Was v0.4.1 running smooth for you?

Hicks613 commented 2 years ago

I'll downgrade and check it out in 6 to 8 hrs.

sd805 commented 2 years ago

I was gonna say, 0.4.1 will probably perform worse. I tried a different dxvk approach in this version which might help: L4D2VR-test.zip

Hicks613 commented 2 years ago

Waaaay worse. Instead of lag spikes every 3 to 4 seconds. It's more like every .5 seconds.

Dang, someone else said that one was an improvement. You could try going into Steam settings -> Shader Pre-Caching -> Allow background processing of Vulkan shaders. What operating system are you using?

Hicks613 commented 2 years ago

Vulkan shaders? Ok I'll try it tonight - 8 hrs time or so. I'll blow away the entire L4d2 directory and try again with l4d2vr-test and 0.4.1 (don't think i tested 0.4.1 yet)

Ryzen 5950x + 16GB CL14 ram running on the profile. RTX 3080 gpu. Steam is on a gen4 nvme drive. Windows 10 - 21h2 clean build from a new iso

I just tried it with Virtual Desktop and it runs great (0.4.2). RTX 3080 and 5600x. VD is set to ultra quality. Runs at 90 fps, a few dropped frames but no stuttering.

Full format of my machine, I kept no drive unwiped. Windows 10 pro Nov 2021 update iso installed. 516.40-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql game ready driver for my rtx 3080

5950x cpu with 32gb cl14 ram. Running from a samsung nvme. Other than my firefox browser, steam steamvr stable (non beta) and this driver, there is nothing else installed. Oh yeah, virtual desktop - running via hvenc . Also tried .264 codec makes no dfference. The stuttering on this game is ridiculous. I'm greeted with beautiful hi res fluid video when standing still, looking around. The game is butter smooth. My gpu is not even breaking a sweat. Then each step I take, each thing i do like picking up a health pack, ammo, its like the game needs to load assets. my nvme light goes on and the game stutters like fuck. Link and Airlink is the same. I've lowered the bitrate and steamvr resolution to potato. In all cases, the game is smooth until new items need loading, then it just stutters like crazy. Any opening scene with dialog about crashed choppers and "getting out of here" etc its glitched with pauses in the audio.

So, I've had tons of issues installing an old Oculus game. Rockband. I posted on reddit and logged a call. Over the last week or so I've gone from Windows 10 pro 1909, formatted installed 21h1, formatted and installed 21h2, formatted and installed windows 11 (that was quick, easy and a dream, but hell was the gaming performance shit), then went back to windows 10 pro 21h2. Each time I tested L4d2 vr 4.2. Massive stuttering all the way. as if I was playing with 8gb ram and a 5400rpm disk.
