The javascript bitrot was only "fixed" via an upper bound
The md5 assumption is just a splice of script that works on OS X too. Not really a great fix but since this is generating a Makefile we've got to rest somewhere.
The Lift instance seems to be a standard part of the orphaned instances package now.
