It would be some sort of CRT type element that would draw lines on the screen. I would imagine it having 4 pins total, those being, of course:
Beam X & Y Positions
Beam Brightness
Ground Pin
Maybe a power pin as well, but the brightness pin would have the same effect. They would probably be interchangeable.
I do know the scopes can do the same, but I believe an element would help complete the list of displays, as well as add a visual aspect of how their real life counterparts work. I feel using scopes doesn't illustrate that as well.
Edit: The scopes also don't allow turning on/off the dot, making them unusable for vector and raster displays, as clean images aren't possible.
