This repository contains the data analysis for our research conducted on the impact of air pollution on respiratory and cardiac related mortality rates in Alberta. Our study investigates the relationship between Air Quality Health Index (AQHI), particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations, and the occurrence of diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Ischemic Heart Disease, Acute Myocardial Infarction, and Lung Cancer. We provide a detailed examination of the potential correlations between air quality and mortality through modeling during the study period from 2012 to 2022.
The study focuses on the use of negative binomial regression to model the count data of mortality rates against the air quality indicators in Alberta. The datasets for AQHI and mortality rates have been sourced from the provincial open data portals and official resources of Alberta. The raw data can be found under data/raw_data
