[x] update version in DESCRIPTION
[x] check if theres any documentation (function help, vignettes, examples) to update
[x] check if there are any tests to update
[x] add updated features to NEWS.md
[x] make sure everything is passing devtools::check()
[x] merge v1.1.0 branch to main
[x] cut GitHub release
