cloning racks and items

It is my firs day working with itdb and I love it:) I can advise you one usefull feature. My todays task is to add few racks with a looooot of staff inside. It would be very usefull if there was an option to copy item and rack. We have a lot of same equipment with only different serial number and it's anoying to typing it ower and ower again. Same with same kind of racks:P

We (@TeamSF) are not the developers of ITDB, but we are working on several improvements since last week.

We have a lot of points on our todo list for ITDB (around 20 I think) we want to improve / re-work and provide back the changes via pull requests to @sivann (official developer) and hope that he will then merge / integrate them.

We already did a theme option and next will be an option to check the hostname of an item against a DNS server and (auto-)update the IPv4 address via DNS based on the itdb hostname (already finished, but not yet packed into a pull request).

Regarding the changes you are mentioning, they are also on our list, but a bit different:

• Allow cloning of racks (without items)
• Option to select what item info shall be taken from the source item/software/rack/etc. when cloning it.

Currently some info is taken when cloning an item, some isn't taken, and we want to allow the user to predefine what info shall be cloned, but also have the possibility to allow an individual selection of what item info to clone for each item.

So hopefully in the future this will be a feature of ITDB ;)

• why not have the ability to import/export information in yaml format?

In this way, we could have premade (or, precalculated!) templates for easy entrance of information.
