Update for Jan 22, 23, 24, 25 run. We will mount the new plate for the run. If successful (this is also contingent on getting the camera focused during the run), we will get materials anodized and the whole package finalized. Plan from Joe:
Saturday, January 22nd: Joe and John start early and head up to remove old guider system. Will install new guider system with new electronics package plates for guider stuff on north plate of 90Prime ring. This has all been mocked up and done once, so hoping it should go smoothly. Determine new balance for telescope as it will be much less top heavy. Meet Dave's crew at 90" around 1:00 p.m. to go over everything, test everything. Joe and John may take separate vehicles down depending on how day unfolds. Dave et al. observe with new guider and 90Prime.
Update on this. Plan for tonight (Jan 25, 2022) is to load the new north plate electronics and network onto the telescope. and new guide camera. Attached is picture of the new north plates (they still need to be anodized). ![Uploading NPlate_notmounted.jpg…]()
This is working well. I believe the final remaining step is to get the plates anodized and tape over any lights.
One thing we are trying for the Feb 2022 run: Adding in a small space to help with focus of guider in all filters.
Feb 2022 update: A spacer was put into the guider to move the focus closer to the middle of range of travel.
With the new spacer in, and our filter identification on lock, here is what I get for focus values for the new guider:
Filter1. green 1900 Filter2 Open 2700 Filter3 neutral 1700 Filter4 red 1700 Filter5 Open 2700 Filter6 blue 1650
All well within the range of travel (which is between -5000 and +5000 units, which @pndaly can confirm).
Update. We would like to test out the guide camera spacer and focus a little bit more before we consider this 'settled'. Also will need to anodize the new north plate.
Will check in on focus during April 19, 20, 21 run.
North plate is anodized. Will check on the situation with anymore 'Xmas tree lights' tomorrow with @jhoscheidt .
I think we've used the new north plate for quite a while now. Close it!
@jhoscheidt and John Morris have a plan for new guide camera installation.
