I think most decisions will be based on what polymer dev follows, which does happen to be yarn https://www.polymer-project.org/blog/2017-08-23-hands-on-30-preview
Let's keep an eye on polymer 3 and see when it becomes stable, and what extra features it can offer.
just as a quick update still holds true for current roadmap. Polymer 3 is set to be an automated upgrade so should check back in next few months to see if it works. As a side, I tried impelmenting 'bower-away' to try and achieve this seperately but it was a mess, so just waiting for now. Have also more explicityly defined versions on most of the packages we use
Bower.io has started recommending people move away from Bower to Yarn and webpack (https://bower.io). It looks like Bower is starting to die... but we probably have ages until it actually becomes a problem, so putting this into the deep backlog.
