Would this be more for cultural collections, e.g. to represent the cultural affiliation of a group of anthropological artifacts? Or?

qgroom commented 4 years ago

Would this really have a controlled vocabulary? @mswoodburn @mtrekels

mtrekels commented 4 years ago

I think the example that @ekrimmel is giving is a good one. But seems to me indeed something rather limited to anthropological collections.

I would clarify in the definition what is exactly meant by 'cultural groups'. Something like 'group with shared identity that may be reasonably traced historically or prehistorically'.

@qgroom : no I don't think it should be a controlled vocabulary

qgroom commented 4 years ago

Ah! I hadn't appreciated it was referring to anthropology! Yes, this does need to be made clearer.

So it means associated with the objects of the collection, such as native American artifacts.

I somehow assumed understood that this related to general organisations that might support the work of the collection, such as hobbyists who have a "cultural" link to the collection.

@qgroom : I interpreted this one similar to 'ecoRegion'. Your interpretation on the other hand is also an interesting one, something like 'collectionSponsors'? Main (financial) contributors do like to get credit for their efforts :-)

Hi,

yes, cultural collections but also economic botany collections.

I've updated the definition and removed the vocab constraint in the table at the top of the thread. @ekrimmel @rondlg do you have any good examples that we can add?

mswoodburn commented 4 years ago

IF anyone did want to use a vocab, http://www.getty.edu/vow/ULANFullDisplay?find=&role=&nation=&subjectid=500125081 might be an option

ekrimmel commented 4 years ago

Here's a bunch of examples in use by collections in Arctos, although at the specimen level: http://arctos.database.museum/info/ctDocumentation.cfm?table=CTCULTURE
