>= at beginning of bulleted list only results in = #19

My markdown is:

*   >= 2 nodes attempt to create database at the same time

but the output looks like

* = 2 nodes attempt to create database at the same time

and is bizarrely in green!

"> plus something" triggers the block quote markup in mistune (I'm so far neutral on whether that's a bug or a feature).

Workaround for the moment: escape '>' with a preceding backslash.
