Apologies for the delay on this. Apparently my head wasn't right at all on Friday so I dumped that work and took a lighter approach here. The TL;DR:

HTML is now rendered from a template held in a source directory.
CSS and JS files rendered to the demo directory have hashes as part of their names (which are templated into the HTML file).

The benefit of this approach won't be felt much while this project is hosted by GitHub, but it does remove the need for a query parameter hack.
