This is really interesting! Can you explain more what literature, resources, etc. you used to build the network?

rickecon commented 6 years ago

State your research question earlier on. Your research question gradually grew over the course of the talk. Great graphics. What results did you get?

Would it be better/more interesting to identify the patterns of merge/diverge across time on "discipline" level or "scientific idea" level? Why the choice of the discipline level?

jamesallenevans commented 6 years ago

Studies of ideas and communities (e.g. network science) Could motivate what is at stake with this more than just "interestingness"; why does it matter (it does!) Infomap that draws on information theory then track the movement of disciplines over time What are the exemplary take-aways? A few case studies would go a long way here.

Really interesting question. I'd be interested in asking a similar question within, rather than across, disciplines (e.g. theorists vs. empirical scientists, qualitative vs. quantitative methodologists, etc.).

I enjoyed the conception of the history of science through correlations between fields both horizontally and temporally. Would love to hear in greater detail what specific interesting conclusions you could draw from these layered analysis methods.

Your topic is very interesting. I am also very curious about what are your results and what are the data resources you used?

dpzhang commented 6 years ago

Interesting topics but would be nice to know the results! Looking forward to reading the final deliverable!
