I saw an interesting article that showed that collaboration among academics increases when airline prices decline. That effect should be smaller in places with more ICT diffusion.

rickecon commented 6 years ago

You didn't show us any data figures or tables or estimation tables. We didn't get to see anything about estimated coefficients. You just gave us an overview of what you are doing.

Hi Esha...this is James.

Great BIG hypothesis: ICT and the death of distance.

Gravity equation model:

mobile phones Internet use

Mass: Population Patents ...

Distance: Contiguity Time difference

Look across patents...but ICT does not predict What does predict collaboration is if countries have the same diffusion of internet

Could this be because both countries face the same challenges (at the same level of development). How does migration play a role, not only "similar" How does this relate to publications, which are not about property Moreover, because this is US patent data, its not obvious that it captures the real distribution of collaborations...can we find better indicators?

banerjeeesha commented 6 years ago

@jamesallenevans Maybe I was not clear, this is not US Patent data, this spans data from all countries that file patents under PCT to EPO. I have not considered publications, only co-inventorship.

@rickecon I realize in hindsight that not presenting tables was a stupid decision, but the percentage results were derived from the estimates. Lesson learned.
