to what extent do you think posters on r/CMV mimic a more general human population? Perhaps posters on this subreddit are generally more open-minded and experience less of what the self-validation theory would predict?

You're going to get yourself in trouble (first comment and issue title).

Good presentation. Nice coefficient plot. What were we supposed to learn from that? What did you learn from that?

Is the research question "what kinds of responses cause changes in OP's initial view?"

julia-zhou commented 6 years ago

Interesting! Have you tried using a larger dataset to improve your results?

Change my view on Reddit Self affiliation theory- if supported by success in some domain then more likely to give in another domain

Problem with deleting of own data

Small effect size...trying to figure out exactly what the delta of that history is...4-6%? What else is controlled for?

bethbailey commented 6 years ago

Great question.

On the removed/deleted posts issue- one might think that individuals who change their view might be more likely to remove their previous posts due to embarrassment. Have you seen any evidence of this/how do you control for it?

I think besides testing the extent to which self-affirmation theory applies, it would be also interesting to take into account the effects of various comment contents from others on the decision whether an author to change mind or not and how they interact with the self-affirmation theory. Maybe sentimental analysis of others' posts other other NLP tools would be helpful to incorporate this effect ?
