Understandable that you cannot cover the entire US. But how many different regions would you expect to find in this geographic area?
States seem somewhat arbitrary a dividing boundary between different linguistic regions. Maybe better to examine metropolitan statistical areas? More natural identification of regional boundaries rather than political boundaries drawn hundreds of years ago
