Ventura issues on my T480 #57

Closed bjwil1991 closed 1 year ago

bjwil1991 commented 1 year ago

I upgraded to Ventura after I copied the new files over to the EFI file system and I also copied the parameters in the config.plist file beforehand. After the install, three issues I run into are the following:

1) when the system boots up, whether a reboot or cold start, it'll say your system ran into a problem. Press any key to reboot or wait a few seconds. If I press any key or wait a few seconds, it boots up.

2) if I close the lid and re-open it to wake it up from sleep mode, it reboots. Even without the lid closed and if I let it sit for about 5-10 minutes of inactivity, it does the same thing.

3) Alongside Monterey, I cannot connect to any hidden network that I have for connecting to my Time Capsule boxes so I can backup the system entirely.

I never had these issues with Monterey 12.X (except the third one has been an issue anyway) and I cannot make heads or tails for this. Has anyone had this issue and how did you fix it?

I had the same issue when I updated my Monterey to Ventura I identified this kernel panic when I'm troubleshooting the problem on the Ventura:

This is the kernel panic message I get.

I'm reinstalling the OS to see if that would fix it since I think the issue from the kernel panic was because of the Monterey EFI files and folders being utilized. The other issue I wish could get fixed is connecting to a hidden network.

Update: I found the culprit(s). First and foremost, I disabled the auto power off, sleep, and hibernation timers entirely and I disabled the VooDooI2C and VooDooI2CHID kernel drivers as they were causing too many issues (touch screen drivers have bugs). I haven't had the system reboot OR kernel panic for now and I'll keep an eye on this for a few days.

for the network problem, try to reset nvram, works for me :)

VoodooI2C has a known problem in Ventura with USB attached touchpads (the T480/T480s touchscreen is USB attached) that makes the system panic at reboot and also introduces sleep issues. so you did the right thing disabling it for now

Hi, I know this is closed and fixed some time ago now - but I just wanted to say a massive thank you to:

  1. @valnoxy - for this repo. I have the T480s so I am using a fork of your repo specifically altered for my machine which would not have existed without your work, so thanks again - I just sponsored you a couple of beers 👍
  2. @bjwil1991 for opening this issue. The owner of the repo I am using doesn't have touch screen, so didn't seem to be experiencing this issue. I have now disabled the offending kexts and have no more shutdown or sleep issues. Thanks for pinpointing it 👍

is this exclusive from Ventura or also happens in Mont?
