As part of your pre-work submission, please reflect on the app and answer the following questions below:
Question 1: "What are your reactions to the Android app development platform so far? Compare and contrast Android's approach to layouts and user interfaces in past platforms you've used."
Answer: I really liked developing a simple application like the SimpleTodo which I am calling SmartTasker. I have developed web applications before using JQuery and some of the concepts felt similar. So far I felt designing layouts, connecting the actions to functions and passing data between activities straight forward.
Question 2: "Take a moment to reflect on the ArrayAdapter
used in your pre-work. How would you describe an adapter in this context and what is its function in Android? Why do you think the adapter is important? Explain the purpose of the convertView
in the getView
method of the ArrayAdapter
."
Answer: In the app, ArrayAdapter has been used to handle the list of items. Adapter creates a view for each item in the data set and its function in android is to deliver the content i.e it acts as an interface between ListView(UI component) and the data for that view. It is important because it provides access to the data items. And convertView is a recycled instance of view that is previously returned from the getView(). When a view from the list is no longer visible to the user they are removed from the View Group and are added to the internal recycling bin. These recycled views are then received as convertView parameter.
Describe any challenges encountered while building the app.
