for me it's fast enough. but in case somebody wants to make things faster, here are some ideas:

compression of data over network (although this might already be the case?)
a less verbose graphite format (i.e. raw instead of json. see https://github.com/graphite-project/graphite-web/blob/master/webapp/content/js/jquery.graphite.js#L360, shouldn't be too hard to switch to raw)
serverside aggregation of metrics based on number of datapoints per pixel
client-side caching of metrics

i'm gonna close this cause it's not high prio. it's plenty fast for me. if somebody wants to do it, feel free.
