Localization: Spanish

Hi all, I am Victor Bottacco, a Spanish Apple Specialist with 30 years experience in the Apple ecosystem. I have translated several other apps along these years and I am recommending BetterDisplay to many clients of mine, so it would be great having it localized to Spanish.

I have already started the Spanish localization downloading the "BetterDisplay.Localizations_v2.0.9.zip" file and opening the es.xcloc My first question is about the URLs you have in localizable strings (privacy, license, but)… are you going to create a Spanish version of those web pages? Because I am translating the last part of the URL (privacidad, licencia, comprar)

Also, in Spanish there are two ways to talk and/or write: one formal, meant for people you don't know or business, and the coloquial one… which one would prefer to identify BetterDisplay with?

I think you should not translate the URLs itself - if there will be Spanish versions for these texts, we can update the URLs in the translations later. For now only English is available.

Regarding formal or colloquial one, I am not sure the cultural connotations in Spanish - I want the app to be as accessible as possible so if colloquial would sound good to me but if that makes the app feel unprofessional, then formal might be better. :) We should probably use what Apple products normally use. What would you suggest?

Ok about the URLs, I will leave them as they are.

About the writing style, Apple always tries to be accesible and feel personal, so they usually go with the colloquial form. I will follow that when being impersonal is not possible.

I updated the localization file in the https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay/discussions/2165 opening post to reflect the latest v2.1.0 pre-release version.

Let me know if you have any questions or issues with the translation. Also, if there is a partial translation and you want me to compile a version with it included so you can see the existing progress in the app itself, let me know! :)

Hi @stonkol - sure! Technically you should talk to @Bottacco on how to best divide up the work. But I am not sure what progress @Bottacco made as there seems to be some lack of progress/feedback in the past few months. :) So if there is no response from @Bottacco, I think you should simply start working on the translation file.

Hi @stonkol, thanks, merged the https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay-localization/pull/14 and then updated the Spanish sources based on the latest export from the app. Please pull the changes to your fork as well!

The translation now stands at 69%
