Party Food #6

We need to arrange for food.

Ideas?

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

@vinbarnes The food you have brought from the mexican place previous years was awesome. Is that an option for this year?

vinbarnes commented 11 years ago

I'll call to see if they're still doing catering. I just looked up the bill from last year and it was $250.00.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

Sweet, thanks @vinbarnes!

Are there any other suggestions for awesome food stuffs?

(Keith and I have budgeted a goodly amount of money for food/drink/etc. so we will definitely be picking up the tab for foodstuffs)

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

I can BBQ if you'd like. Whatever you fancy.

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

Actually, I have to renege. The official calendar says I won't have enough time to properly prepare.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

How much time is enough time?

It's not the event time, I overlooked other plans for the morning that have me out of town.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

Sadness!

rick commented 11 years ago

Pretty sure we cornered @evanmiller67 in campfire and got him to agree to bbq in his car or put shit on ice or something.

rick commented 11 years ago

campfire? IRC.

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

Yeah. That's happening. Pork and chicken. Prepare yourself.

Sweet!

vinbarnes commented 11 years ago

If @evanmiller67's on the case should I still investigate the mexican fiesta option? They had a lot of meat options, rice, beans, and tortillas from what I remember.

rick commented 11 years ago

@vinbarnes -- I want the mexican fiesta option like in the past, for the after-party (aka, party formerly known as the hoedown party) portion, so bring it. Definitely make sure the vegetarian options are covered.

I agree with Rick on having both options.

Had to stop by in person to bypass the language barrier. They will get back to me with an estimated cost on:

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

That sounds fantastic!

vinbarnes commented 11 years ago

@elizabrock the estimated cost is around $330. I'm going to phone in the go ahead tomorrow if that works for you. Homemade tortillas!!!!

Fyi, they are going to take care of the tax, throw in the tortillas, and give us a bit of a break.

rick commented 11 years ago

I'm also willing to pay for a chunk of this as well. Halfsies?

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

How much pork/chicken should I prepare? Good rule of thumb:

(X lbs of raw meat) * (3/2) = (Y # of sandwiches)

vinbarnes commented 11 years ago

∂ = coefficient of meat

rick commented 11 years ago

I'll let Eliza weigh in on wedding guest eating. Presumably, with the mexican food that's coming, and presuming that a sandwich is something that fits inside a normal hamburger bun (is that a good rule of thumb?), then I'm guessing maybe 70 sandwiches worth for post-wedding party grazing? We can always fall back on the other comestibles if the bbq runs out, fwiw.

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

@rick yes, that's a good rule of thumb.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

(Sorry to take so long to reply)

70 sandwiches sounds like a really good plan. Between that and Kevin's food, that sounds like we could feed 100 people, which sounds like a good safe number.

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

So we're looking at around 45lbs pre-cook weight. What is your desired distribution of pork to chicken? 1:1? 2:1? Chicken is cheaper, if that matters.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

I'd prefer to leave that to your best judgement and/or inclinations as you get ingredients.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

Oh, also, how would you guys prefer me to get money to you for the food? I want to make sure that doesn't slip my mind entirely!

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

I'll keep tabs on things and when I deliver the food (with reheating instructions), I'll send you an email with an itemized receipt.

Will you need any of the following:

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

<3

Those would all be great. Thanks for thinking of them!

evanmiller67 commented 11 years ago

How about other sides? Flatware?

vinbarnes commented 11 years ago

@rick I plan on dropping off the Edible Arrangements™ fruit tray and haddock party dip bread bowl between 5-6p today.

rick commented 11 years ago

Hey -- that's when the Ceremony is going on -- would it be at all possible to bring it between 4 and 5 instead?

Man, I'm all turned around. For some reason, I kept thinking the ceremony was at 7:30p! Yeah, I just checked with them and I'll plan to pick up at 4p and be by your house by 5p with the victuals. Thanks for the verbal bludgeoning with the clue stick.
