Not sure what's going on here? DJ? VJ? Band? Groupies?

In any event I'm happy to provide The Elegant Bastards PA. I'll double-check with the others but shouldn't be a problem, hasn't been in the past. Let me know, por favor. If so, some mics would be helpful as I have most the gear for the mixer, speakers, speaker stands, and cabling. It's not hard to patch in with a iPhone or similar for folks that want to DJ. I wasn't sure if the reverend @jameswhite, @elizabrock, and @kamarcum would need a mic for the ceremony. Just thinkin' out loud, don't mind me. :microphone: :sound:

One of my guys has a PA system and can loan us mics.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

@shaynarang ^

kamarcum commented 11 years ago

Are we mic'ing vows and such? I guess that's a typical thing to do.

jameswhite commented 11 years ago

Microphones will give me a chance to beat-box and do some freestyle rappin'.

/cc me on shit, heh.

at this point I think I no longer have mics / pa's / etc, fwiw

There will be 0, 1, or 2 bands showing up later (depending on whether that shit happens or not) and I'm still waiting on tangible details on that (outsourced, you might say).

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

It sounds like both @shaynarang and @vinbarnes have mic/PA options. Can you guys chime in on what you have on hand so we can coordinate?

vinbarnes commented 11 years ago

I have:

It should be great if you want to hear vows, readings, or performances. Though as @heathseals opined, mic-ing @jameswhite might be overkill. If folks want to hook up something for DJ-ing later, that'd work too. I may be able to scrounge up a mic and mic stand, but those are what I don't have much of.

One band is confirmed for the party. A second is 50% likely or better. So, I'll end up wanting to build out a "stage". @rimboy suggested that Craft Brewed has a lot of pallets, so I'm thinking, next to the house (i.e., taking down or modifying/moving the Big Tent after the ceremony) we lay down some pallets, and get some plywood to put over it so we have a stage.

I've pinged back to see if they have all the equipment they'll need or if we need to round up anything else. @rimboy mentioned he has a PA if necessary.

elizabrock commented 11 years ago

Sweet! @shaynarang what kind of equipment do you have on hand?

shaynarang commented 11 years ago

I have two small PA speakers, two speaker stands, and a mixer. I have one microphone and one microphone stand but may be able to procure more of these items.

I haven't been able to nail down the gypsy jazz musicians yet. The folks I have reached out to gig frequently and have been unavailable for the wedding date. I am, however, waiting on a response from a friend who knows how to make things happen (like 'The Wolf' from Pulp Fiction). If he doesn't come through, we may need to explore another genre for the pre-ceremony and ceremony (classical guitar perhaps?). I will keep everyone updated.

shaynarang commented 11 years ago

I managed to nail down a Gypsy Jazz trio (stand-up bass, guitar, and violin) from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. They should not need sound reinforcement but will bring amplifiers in case.

vinbarnes commented 11 years ago

@shaynarang awesome!

Since the band won't require amplification will we even need a PA? If so, it sounds like @shaynarang has the best option. I will try to get my hands on at least one mic, stand, and cable if that's the case. Just in case someone wants to karaoke or filibuster.

shaynarang commented 11 years ago

Hey Guys. Sorry for my delayed responses here.

The Gypsy Jazz group will not need a PA but I imagine we will need something in place for recorded music and announcements. @rick, Eliza mentioned you have speakers you generally use for parties. Would your speakers suit the need for recorded music and announcements? If not, I am glad to bring my speakers.

I'm excited to hang out with you guys.

rick commented 11 years ago

In my current setup, the speakers I have in-house are a pair of KRK's that I have running through a Traktor S2, which will take a mic using an 1/4" jack. This may or may not be an ideal setup (in a way, the whole thing is engineered to be used in the office and I could point them out the window, or move the whole rig). It may be easier to have another set and keep the KRK/S2 setup for indoor use and dance-partying.

I'm going to start aggressive-ping mode this evening to see about the need for a PA for the later band (my guess is "yes", but I want to get a clear confirmation before I start borrowing big audio gear)...

Looking forward to hanging with you too. Should be a fun time! :tada: :musical_note:
