Kerning for slashes #12

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
When writing a URL (e.g. http://www.google.com) with the Heuristica font the
kerning of the slashes ("/" characters) doesn't look right. I think they should
be quite a bit closer together.
This also applies to the backslash ("\" character). You can see example
screenshots in the attachment.

It would be nice if you could fix this in a future version.

Utopia, the original font, was designed in 1980s and has not kerning for these
pairs.

Hello Andrej,

Thanks for the quick response and the explanation. Would still be nice if you
could change this in the future.

The attached patch (against the Heuristica 1.0.2 sfd sources) fixes the issue.
In addition, it provides, as stylistic set 1, longer slash and backslash
glyphs, which match the parentheses in height and depth.

This will break the metric compatibility with the Utopia font.
