Add kerning after apostrophe #6

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

It seems there's kerning information before a curly apostrophe (aka single
right quote), as in L’ or n’, but there is no kerning *after* the
apostrophe, which would be desirable for things like d’Artagnan, c’est, or
L’occhio.

Fixed in svn.

It might also be a good idea to add kerning between single/double open/close
quotes, to help separating them. I often see a space between the quotes, as in:

“He said ‘please’ ”

but I think this would better be done by font kerning, so that I'd just write:

“He said ‘please’”

and the font would take care of separating ’ and ”.

If this is accepted, don't forget cases like:

‘’tis so’ (some kerning between ‘ and ’)

I think that kerning for “‘ and ’” is needless, since kerned pairs will
look like triple qoutes. Currently the distance between double/single quotes is
not very large.

Maybe I wasn't clear, I mean positive kerning, so that double and single quotes
would be more clearly separated and not look like triple quotes at all. You say
the distance is not very large, I think it should be slightly larger.

I have decided to keep “‘ and ’” pairs untouched. There is enough space
between quotes to differ from the triple quotes.

Unfortunately, kerning was added for some letters, but not for their accented
friends. For example, c’est and c’était have different spacing after the
apostrophe.
