Our VPC board: https://app.conceptboard.com/board/rhrp-pn99-goyt-xa5m-x163
Please write down your answers to these questions(Filling out the VPC will come later when we have an idea of what we're doing.): 1- How are we engaging the employees for feedback? 2- Are they free to send instantaneous feedback messages to the system about any other employee including their managers / boss ? 3- Are there going to be forms? 4- Are feedbacks made anonymously? 5- How will the registration process work for employees? 6- How does the rating system work if there is one? 7- If we have forms and ask for ratings on this and that, how is this system any different than any other system out there? 8- What will make this product stand out from the competition? (Why would someone choose this product?)
The main problem with the employee feedback system even though it's a good idea, is that It's been done numerous times so we have to compete with all these attractive apps which I mentioned in the substitutes section of the VPC.
1) Client (company) policy. At my previous job we had 1 feedback session per quarter. Each employee asked 5 employees to leave a feedback (usually team members). Each employee was also enforced to answer all incoming requests for a feedback. 2) Employees are able to ask anybody to leave a feedback (depends on a company's policy), but one can leave a feedback only for employees, which requested him/her to make a feedback. 3) Yep. Freestyle textbox + form for evaluating leadership, tech skills, soft skills etc. by certain scale (e.g. from 0 to 10). See screenshots I provided in google doc proposal earlier. 4) partially. Everybody knows who left him a feedback, but the actual content is visible only for manager/employee's supervisor. 5) We had SSO for all internal services, including feedback platform. For our project we can use FB/* and than manage ACL internally, group users etc. 6) Feedback can be useful or not. This is used only to show employees if their feedback had a value for a manager. This is optional. The only important info for assessment is an average assessment form and list of all feedbacks for a particular employee. 7) any other, for example? 8) let's find at least a couple of similar services and than compare. Coz I know none, it's hard to answer why.
For sure it won't be a rule-changing, earth-breaking new awesome platform. Keep it simple, it's an uni project! Just check out last year's projects and make sure they don't expect new Facebook from us. Typical top 5 project there are: 1-yet another food ordering system, +2-yet another eShop, +1 - yet another traveling app that nobody wants, +1 - something really interesting.
I added some stuff which we can compare our stuff with design-wise, 1- getvetter.com 2- infeedo.com 3- peakon.com 4- cultureamp.com
We should make it easy for everyone to give feedback to anybody else. So people who weren't requested by you to give feedback to you should also be able to give feedback to keep this thing more transparent. Otherwise, I would pick the top 5 people I work with and most of the feedback would be positive and not really a representation of my true performance. Also, I believe all feedback should be anonymous. People shouldn't feel any pressure giving negative feedback. (only your manager should know who gave the feedback.)
What about giving feedback to your manager? (His manager would be the person to read all that feedback right?)
I believe such details can be omitted right now. We can call all this stuff as a "company's assessment policy".
Yeh, you're right. Restrict this thing won't be a good idea.
Such anonymity won't make any sense in a case when you request a feedback. Since other person will be enforced to give you this feedback, you will be 100% sure he left the feedback. Anyway, I'm just described the system I had, so we are free to make any deviations. But we should it will "work", coz the system I experienced was tested in real world scenario in multinational company with 22k employees around the globe, and some radical changes may break the idea :)
getvetter.com very good example. Flaws from a quick scan: only textbox + stars ranking. If we a taking about IT, you will probably want assessment of testing, code, whatever skills and more deferential ranking than meaningless "stars". We can make it configurable. Other platforms are about more wide hr related integration. I'm not sure if some would like to integrate such giants (relative) just for feedbacks.
Btw, getvetter.com is about getting suggestions, not for gathering feedback ON EMPLOYEES FROM EMPLOYEES
Please use the Value Proposition Canvas (VPC) as presented in the lecture to sketch out your business idea. The VPC is a visual template that will help you in developing your business idea by explicitly outlining the targeted customer segments as well as the value proposition of your web application. Furthermore, it serves as a foundation for the development of your business model based on the Business Model Canvas (BMC), which will be part of exercise 2.
Please familiarize yourself with the VPC if you have not used it yet (http://www.businessmodelgeneration.com/canvas/vpc). Furthermore, there is lots of material available on the web and in the library about the BMC which also covers the components of the VPC (e.g. Osterwalder & Pigneur (2010): Business Model Generation: A Handbook for Visionaries, Game Changers, and Challengers).
