XTaran's Keyboard Layout Designs

Preface

This repository contains more or less all my designs, thoughts, braindumps and crazy ideas around keyboard layout design. They range from 27% keyboards over 70% and TKL to 1800-style layouts. ("XTK" is short for "XTaran's Keyboard(s)")

The layouts were usually created in the online Keyboard Layout Editor and the JSON format it produces can be consumed by many other tools from the mechanical keyboard scene.

The Layout Designs

• 45% to 55% keyboard layout designs — my initial designs
• Sub-30% keyboard layout designs with Enigma layout
• TKL-based keyboard layout designs with "missing" rows or IBM-style cursor cross
• minimal kinda-staggered 40% keyboard layout design
• Thumbwing, a gamepad style mechanical keyboard layout with backside keys
• HHKB-style keyboard layout designs with a dedicated cursor cross
• 70% Keyboard without modifiers — Why? Because I can! 😉
• The IPv6 Keyboard
• A Sperno59 Derivative in 1800 Style

The name under which I initially published this, "XTKb", was his idea (though with different capitalization) after I wasn't happy that my idea "XTK" was already in use quite often. At some point I though decided that I'll use "XTK" anyway as "X Tool Kit" is definitely a different type of thing, so after a while I switched to this initial idea.
