This was so important for my project, i've made a patched build. I haven't got so far in understanding the build as to run any unit-tests, but with manual testing (viewing DICOM volume, with another DICOM as a labelmap) it was fine for my use case.
For some reason labelmap opacity is considered for 3D rendering, but not considered for 2D rendering. It was commented out a while ago. I propose to return it back
