Data plans in the US #39

Someone on your list mentions t-mobile or AT&T.

When I've travelled to the US in the past, I've used AT&T and it's been far superior to any other provider over there (for data speed and general reception), but when we went to the US over Christmas, we found out that unfortunately they no longer allow BYO device & 3G data plans (probably because of people like us!)

My iPhone 5 worked great on T-mob's 3g network, but they have a crap 100mb per month cap before it drops down to 2g speed.... So for a normal person, it becomes unusable very quickly!

I'd totally recommend being confident, taking a plunge, and leaving data for the hotel during your downtime. Next time we go, I'm probably not even going to get a US SIM, and will instead roam on my Aus one (making/taking emergency calls only).

If you've been to SF before, you could do the same!

That's pretty gnarly! I'm expecting to spend the majority of my time online on my phone. I'll do some research into my options and post the findings here. Cheers for the heads up!

T-mobile nailed it!
