just had a discussion with Tiago, there are other possibilities here, what's sure is that for Mircea at least, the distinction between the two icons is insufficient to help keep track of the two levels at which a word can exist.
alternatives we've discussed are maybe showing both the progress bars:
or maybe dropping the time-proportional bar for simply showing that there's four exercises in a different stage:
I was puzzled a bit earlier seeing that two words that I thought I had known were with zero progress. then i realized, they probably have moved to productive exercises.
I think it might make sense to associate two different colors to the two learning levels. we might be able to do this in combination with the other observation from elsewhere that the orange bar could be removed and the clarity of the progress bar might be increased that way.
indeed, if the difference between the two stages took me so much to make sense of, i think for some users they would never be discovered...
we could then associate everything that's receptive with a color, e.g. a light yellow:
and everything that's productive with green
