can someone make this a regular access point, instead of ad hoc, the
difference is in the packet of data that carries the ssid, on an access
point it only sends the ssid, on a device it sends the ssid and the device
info, so this should be easy to do

Actually here in Florida the signal is excellent I get 4.8MB download and 
900kbps on upload.  No lagging and the torrents runs sweet!

infrastructure is NEEDED please.. Its the only way to tether Android to Android 
Devices.. No AD-HOC Support on android devices.

Android Phone + Android Tablet = NIGHTMARE CURRENTLY! (No Bluetooth or 3g in

Android Galaxy Tablet can't connect without infrastructure.  It would be 
GREATLY appreciated if we could find away to either A. allow infrastructure in 
the wifi hotspot app or B. Get an app for android that enables connection to 
Ad-hoc networks.   Being unable to connect droid-to-droid is a bit silly.  
"Droid does, but not with other droids?"

Is your t-mobile tab a galaxy tab? If so that is a fix for that tab only. We 
need AP for all android devices.

We need a wpa_supplicant mod that will work on all android devices, not just 
the galaxy tab. But because the mod does allow the galaxy tab to connect to a 
ad-hoc network. It should be able to adjust the file to work with other android 
devices? Anyone want to try? Thanks a million if you do.

Got an android ereader for Christmas with wifi only. Tried all the tethering 
apps I could find. Nothing is connecting this ereader/tablet to my froyo Eris. 
Is there an app that I might try on my tablet to get the ad-hoc feature 
connected. I would appreciate any info.

Options is always a wonderful thing..infrastructure mode sounds like a good 
idea. My issue Is I wanted to Run my Ps3 off my g1 tether Wifi without the need 
of a computer. (Ps3 will only take a infrastructure connection) I know it can

We currently support infrastructure mode for the follwing devices:

* Motorola Droid X/Droid 2 - (Texas Instruments chipset)
* HTC Evo (and other bcm4329-based Broadcom chipset)
* ZTE Blade (Artheros chipset)

Probably in the future:

* Samsung devices with Broadcom-chipsets

I thought I heard this wasn't possible with Motorola Droid/Milestone?  Can

already works as infrastructure.  I was never able to get wifi tether to work 
on my Galaxy S.

Infrastructure mode would be very usefull to support connection of android 
tablets.
On non rooted android tablets infact you cannot modify wpa_supplicant 
configuration to allow connection to ad-hoc network.
Having the option to enable wifi tether in ad hoc mode will allow me to connect 
my android tablets to the 3G network.

I'd like to see it implemented

I have a rom for gingerbeard on my Droid 1 that add the built-in OS access 
point, and this when start is infrastructure mode. So why can't infrastructure 
mode be added to this app? I am just confused now know that Droid 1 can get 
infrastructure mode using access point mode built-in to the OS.

The new KA6 Froyo from t-mobile gives the wireless AP app built in.  Just 
tested this, it runs infrastructure.  Any way to build this into wifi tether.  
I believe if I use the app that t-mobile provides you have to pay the $14/month 
for it.

@derek : sorry, but I must disagree with you. With my Galaxy S set with Darky's 
ROM (to be found at XDA), the native AP wifi tether is working fine. Yet, I 
can't have this android-wifi-tether apk working in AP mode... it is only 
running in ad-hoc mode.

Please, devs of this great app, add infrastructure mode of the Galaxy S!!!

By the way, I have a question: how do you connect Windows 7 to an Android phone 
tethering wifi in ad-hoc mode? Because Window 7 sees my SGalaxy S ad-hoc 
wifi-tethering in the list of available wifi connections, but fails to connect 
to it (even after attempting a "repair").

I installed the pre release (all available currently), and on startup all of 
them crash my phone (3 quick vibrates, and then black screen to bootup)

I know that native AP in Galaxy S works but it has got client limit! I can 
connect only 3 devices at the same time and this is not enough, so please add

How could anyone possibly think that infastructure tethering is not important 
or not a high priority? Are you stupid?

Lack of infrastructure tethering means no GNU-Linux laptops, and no tethering 
Android devices to each other....Sure, you can tether your Windows 7 and mac 
laptops, but some people like myself HAVE to use Linux because you simply cant 
do certain things with Windows or mac, or else it would cost tens of thousands 
of dollars to do what I can do with Linux Mint for FREE.

Setting up Ad hoc networks is a chore in general, but for some reason it is 
most especially difficult connecting to Android ad hoc networks.

Also, some of us want the Xoom, but we dont want to pay for yet ANOTHER data 
plan. One is enough. Geez. We dont need one for every bit of electronics, all 
separate. It gets stupid fast. Also expensive.

I want my Xoom to connect to my Samsung Epic 4g instead of having to pay for 
yet another data plan. To do that I need infrastructure mode tethering and 
nothing else will do. I refuse to pay another 30 bucks a MONTH for a fucking 
app. Not happening.

We really really need a free or even paid (1 time only) app that will tether 
android device to android device in infrastructure mode.

I would pay $50 for such an app....Maybe more. At $19.99 the app would go 
flying IF you could keep up with the bandwidth for downloads. Whoever makes an 
app for rooted devices that can tether your Android phone to Android tablet is 
a rich man.

I'm chiming in for adding infrastructure mode -- and to everyone saying 'just 
buy a mobile AP or upgrade your phone' -- Email me and I will let you know 
where to send your extra money to fund that.

In the mean time, I'll save my money and try to get an application to work on 
the phone I have and like and save several hundred dollars a *year*.

Please add an infrastructure mode. The Xoom is now entering the market in force 
and those of us evaluating an android tablet vs IPad 2 are immediately 
handicapped because android will not connect wireless wifi ad-hoc even on a 
rooted phone. This is a significant feature that is needed now. Thanks

The Xoom does have a bcm4329, so it should be able to support softap. I think 
the problem is just that android-wifi-tether doesn't detect it properly. (For 
some reason different devices put the firmware in different directories.)

WiFi only xoom does not work with ad-hoc networks and my rooted Epic 4G does 
not have the tether option for blue-tooth so I have no options but to wait.

It can... we just haven't figured it out yet.  In the meantime wifi tether can 
certainly create an adhoc network on the xoom wifi... it just can't create an 
infrastructure one using softap.

@135, that's right, calling the developers "stupid" is a sure way to get your 
feature included. But I guess you're the stupid one seeing how you're not smart 
enough to code that feature in yourself!! So you can either pay $30/month or 
get go a real degree doing software development and implement it yourself! Or 
maybe, you're just a iWannabee and Android is too hard for you -- go buy an 
iPad, that supports ad-hoc...

@142- I own a Epic 4g, and you don't have to use ad-hoc anymore.  Download 
android-wifi-tether v3.0, the highest development one available.  In settings, 
go to 'change device profile' and select Samsung Epic 4g.  Default tether will 
now be in infrastructure mode, and your xoom will be able to connect perfectly.

One note:  Be sure to start tethering with 4g turned off or the phone will 
crash.  Once the tethering is active, enable 4g and enjoy.
